A galaxy far far away from Darth Toddler

C and I have just returned from a weekend away.

It involved lots of sleeping, shoe shopping, spontaneous swimming in hotel pool and ducking into miniscule decidedly child unfriendly cafes for quick coffees. It also involved posh dinner eating, walking for miles about the city and harbour and champagne at 4pm.

It did not involve pushing strollers, changing mumpies, sitting on tiny stool and encouraging eating of porridge, marathon teeth brushing sessions or tantrums.

Friday was the first night I have ever had without Tricky sleeping more than one room away. I wish I could say on Saturday I slept in till ten but sadly, both mornings, I was awake by seven.

It was the first time ever I had gone out for coffee without a matchbox car in my handbag.

It was fantastic, once the bottom lip stopped wobbling. His and ours.

But I believe it was wobbling far longer on our side of the galaxy.

Oh........ it does you so much good to be separated for a while though I expect you were consumed by guilt/worry! Every one survived and you had a great time, as I expect Tricky did too!

I have yet to have a single night away from my boys (not for lack of wanting...) but I remember that moment of blissful realisation the first night we got a baby-sitter in, went out and had a great time and came home to find all well and boys sleeping. It can - must - be done!

A whole weekend?!?! Wow!

We had our first date night in months on Friday, and the grandparents kept the toddler and 9 month old baby overnight for the first time. It was absolute luxury. A whole weekend sounds like unfathomable bliss.

I'm so jealous - particularly as I now have two nights in sole charge of the monsters.

Even now, it all just seems like a beautiful dream, wafting away...

OG it sounds heavenly!! Lovely to hear from you, blogging has been a bit much to keep up with lately but I hasten to add that nothing drastic has happened, just lower energy levels for all sorts of reasons. The sun has just come back out after a day of rain - big smile crossing my face for that one!!

The situation with carers is stable at the moment - great news - and my little cat is back on form after an operation to rebuild her knee a few months back - we never will find out how she did it, but was stuck indoors for 3 months. A very long time for her. Otherwise all is well thanks for asking. Sending many happy thoughts in your direction.

Ooh, I can't even imagine this! I do know on the rare occasion I have gone out with the Scribe without our daughter we spend most of the night talking about her and looking at photos of her like a tragic old sad-sack pair! I don't know how I'd be for longer than a couple of hours. In therapy probably!

My childless friends look at me like I'm mad when I enthuse about lying on a blanket in the local park, after a picnic perhaps, with both eyes shut and no-one to shout "don't EAT THAT!" to...

Haven't done that in 12 years...
