One Night In Bed

So I was lying on my back feeling the baby slide around inside me and as it kicked I realised I could see my stomach rippling.

This made me laugh and so then there was more rippling.

And then my belly button bulged and heaved and other parts of my stomach contorted like a miniature earthquake was underway in my gut and I stopped laughing because to tell the truth it looked really quite disturbing and while it was funny before, now, frankly, it was just plain creepy.

It's plain weird for us partners to watch too... In the later stages B would point out that her bump had 'corners'.

my squeamish nature has not allowed me to watch 'alien' but there were plenty of occasions when i thought to myself how reminiscent the experience was of ms weaver's character in said film

and i once upset an older woman at work who was cooing over my bump - she asked how i felt and i said it was a bit like being inhabited by an alien

creepy, but fun in a weird sort of way

Why, I used the word "creepy" just today regarding that sort of movement. I was laying in bed for about half an hour feeling what could have been legs, arms, a butt, a head, moving back and forth across my abdomen. It's as disturbing as it is magical.

That is so totally cool. As UC said, creepy too. But cool. I can't wait :-)

Well-described and something I well remember. The odd flutter kick was one thing; it was the heaving I found most disconcerting!

Creepy, yes... but I found it the BEST part of being pregnant. Feeling her move. Seeing her move. Knowing that there was a LITTLE PERSON IN THERE. Crazy.
Enjoy it, OG. :)

Creepy, maybe - but I bet it feels more real every day. Good luck, you're doing great.

Yes, creepy but also magical. My favorite times of the day are when my little girl moves around. I still smile as if it is the first time she is doing it because I can't believe there really is a little human being in there. Now my little girl is getting the hiccups daily -- that is FUNNY! I still think I will go into shock on delivery day!

When my stomach did that, I had flashbacks to that Alien movie....

yikes!
I had a similar experience after eating some wrong chicken in Mexico...but I just don't think it was quite the same.

Love that s/he was laughing with your laugh. Very sweet.

One of my friends was very excited about it, and when she showed her husband he had the "creepy" reaction. It hurt her feelings, and she obsessed about it for the remainder of the pregnancy.

Enjoy the creepy magical moments.

Hey, is there an email address I can contact you by?

It is quite alien looking right? Downright... bizzare yet at the same time somehow normal.

So happy for you.

I remember being quite astonished at what the tiny things could get up to in there. Made them more of a person somehow. And then I worried that it would feel cramped and get bored with being curled up all the time.

I think it is just the coolest thing... sort of like a scene out of Alien, or some other horror movie when a face emerges from a stone wall, or something creepy like that.

I remember asking a pregnant friend, years ago, if she felt at all claustrophobic, what with the big baby inside of her.. she said oh, yes. I wasn't sure what I even meant by the question, but I get it now. Claustrophoic with little aliens inside. Isn't it lovely??

Oh yes, the mexican wave belly. Its totally weird and awesome at the same time. As is the little pointy bulges that appear here and there.

What's even better is discovering that pointy thing was his elbow.

Now hear this. There is no part of having a baby that isn't surreal. They kick and squirm inside you and then they come out and weeks later they're looking at you with recognition and smiling while you're still thinking "who are you and where did you come from?".

Ehem. Sorry for the outburst. It's lovely to feel kicking. I'll go back to my hole now...

Hello dear!
Just checking in on you, as we haven't heard from you in a little bit.

Give us a quick post to let us know that all is well, yes? It doesn't have to be Shakespeare. ;)

I loved that - I didnt get it that often w/ anterior placenta, but when I did it was WAY cool.

Gosh. I read through your blog archives the other day and I have to say - it's like a fantastic novel! It's nice to see the heroine get what she deserves in the end :)

And because I think you just so funny, you've been TAGGED! See my blog for details!

Cheers and congratulations!

OMG. Last night as I watched kitties moving around in Sammy's belly, I wondered what in the world must that feel like?
